Belltower Lofts: Honoring Marion’s Past, Building for the Future
High Properties, in partnership with Conlon Construction, is proud to announce the development of Belltower Lofts in Uptown Marion. This project not only creates much-needed housing opportunities but also preserves one of the community’s most historic and recognizable landmarks.
Built in 1896, the property originally housed the Marion First United Methodist Church, a building that stood as a cornerstone of the community for more than a century. When the August 2020 derecho swept through the area, the church sustained significant damage, leaving its future uncertain.
Faced with the possibility of demolition, High Properties and Conlon Construction stepped in to give the building a new life. Through careful planning and thoughtful design, the project retains many of the church’s defining features, including its original stained glass windows, the bell, and the iconic belltower. These historic elements will remain at the heart of the development, blending Marion’s past with its future.
Introducing Belltower Lofts
Once complete, Belltower Lofts will feature 55 total units designed to meet a range of housing needs. The property will include:
Studio apartments
One-bedroom apartments
One-bedroom lofts
Located in the vibrant Uptown Marion district, Belltower Lofts will provide modern, high-quality living spaces within walking distance of local shops, dining, and community amenities.
Belltower Lofts is part of a mixed-income housing initiative. 51% of the property is funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, meaning income eligibility requirements apply for a portion of the available units. These affordable housing opportunities aim to support residents who meet certain income criteria and expand access to high-quality living options in the area.
Supporting Derecho Recovery
For many in Marion and surrounding areas, the 2020 derecho was life-changing. Recognizing this impact, Bell tower Lofts has committed to giving first leasing priority to individuals directly affected by the storm. This effort underscores High Properties’ dedication to supporting the community’s recovery and ensuring that those who need stable housing most have access to it.
Belltower Lofts represents more than just a development—it’s a vision for the future of Uptown Marion. By protecting a historic building from demolition and transforming it into a place where people can live, work, and thrive, this project bridges the gap between Marion’s past and its future.
High Properties and Conlon Construction are honored to lead this effort, bringing forward a project that reflects the strength, resilience, and growth of the Marion community.
